Statement of Faith
Through faith in Jesus, we are born again and become part of God's family. We embrace God's grace and believe in the significance of the church. Jesus will return, and we trust in God's purpose for our lives. Learn more by clicking each area of faith.
There is one God. That God exists eternally, past, present, and future. He has manifested himself to us in three persons described by the Trinity–Father, Son, and Holy Spirit–who are united in essence and co-equal. Matthew 28:19
We believe that Jesus was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died a horrible death on the cross but then rose victoriously from the dead, and now is the Lord with all authority in heaven and on Earth given to him. Jesus is who He said He was. John 3:31-36
We believe in the Holy Spirit. He is our guide, our teacher, our gifter, the one who empowers us, and the one who applies all of God’s riches to our lives. Only the Holy Spirit can change the human heart, and therefore we constantly pray that his presence would be amongst us. The Father, the Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit are three persons and yet one God. We call this the Trinity. Acts 1:8
We believe that what the Bible says is true because it is God’s Word and can be trusted. The Bible plays a central role in everything we do and everything we are. It needs no revisions, and nothing is being added to it. It stands alone as God’s word to us. 2 Timothy 3:16
We believe that when a person encounters Jesus Christ and surrenders to Him, they are born-again and made a new person in Jesus Christ. The encounter with Jesus will involve repentance, turning away from sin, and believing in Jesus by surrendering to his Lordship. At that moment, all of heaven rejoices, and that person becomes part of the family of God. It is a supernatural work crafted by God Himself. John 1:12
We believe in grace; grace is when God gives you what you don’t deserve! We believe in grace that goes deeper than your deepest sin, so vast that it encompasses every event of your life and so long that it will take you through life. We believe in giving this kind of grace to people. Romans 5:20
We believe that the church is God’s greatest instrument and his only plan on this Earth to communicate his great salvation. Jesus loves the church, is building the church, and will come back for his church. The church is made up of every Jesus follower with a salvation experience. We freely fellowship with all Jesus’ followers everywhere. We believe Jesus is coming back, and though we don’t know all the details, we know that it will be a great day! Matthew 16:18
We believe that God has a purpose for your life written down before you were even born. His purpose and will for your life are good, acceptable, and perfect. Living outside of His will is only frustrating, defeating, and empty. Romans 12:1-2
Church Of God Ministries
Riverside First Church of God in Fredericksburg, VA is affiliated with the Church of God Ministries. Church of God Ministries serves the General Assembly by empowering the people of God to collectively build a Jesus-centered, biblically-grounded Movement that brings the Kingdom to life on earth as it is in heaven.
